"Don’t be calling me at 4 AM"—unless you’re pouring me another pint of this chocolate coffee stout. Like a BMFS setlist, this stout is full of surprises. It starts with the deep, soulful resonance of coffee, builds into a sweet, chocolatey melody, and finishes with a silky encore you won’t forget. Sip slowly, let it wash over you, and whatever you do, don’t pick up that phone at 4 AM just because you wanna know if I brewed this at home.
Inspired by Pete over 30 years ago, Dadbod Brewing has channeled the Chippewa spirit to craft this winter warmer in honor of Christmases and gift exchanges past. This cousin collaboration celebrates the season with rich, warming flavors and a touch of nutmeg to keep the chill at bay. Raise a glass and toast to old traditions, new memories, and staying cozy on those long winter nights.
It's deer-hunting season in Michigan and what better way to compliment venison than with a nice brown ale? With notes of caramel, chocolate and light roast it's solace for hunters and "buckless yoopers" alike.
After 25 years of marriage, even the purest love gets a little funky—especially when you're married to Dr. Jimi. Tainted Love is his first dive into kettle-soured brewing, blending the sweet and tangy flavors of passion fruit and mango. Raise a glass to the passion, the mango, and the patience of his long-suffering wife, Susan, who’s endured a quarter-century of love, laughter, and a bit of funk.
Andrew and Jim began brewing together using Andrew's five-gallon brew-in-a-bag setup. After the tragic loss of Flip Colmer in the fall of 2019, his wife Rebecca bequeathed much of his brewing equipment to Jim. With the help of the fine people at Adventures in Homebrewing, Jim and Andrew were able to get the Ruby Street equipment running again and were soon cranking out 10 gallon batches of beer.
When the pandemic hit and the gyms closed, Beerman began to ride. Inspired by the milkman of days past, an empty growler left on the porch was replaced with a fresh growler of dadbod beer. The only stipulation to participate was to provide feedback on the beers. Thus, the Pandemic Series of beers were born.
As the pandemic series of beers came to a close, a new chapter of dadbod brewing was started, the dadbod brew club. Eight people agreed to join the club, provide feedback, and join us in the BIY adventures.
We pride ourselves in the diversity of our brews. But, we noticed there is not a lot of diversity in our brewers. Well, we decided to make a change. We're happy to welcome Sarah to our brew crew. Sarah enjoys craft beer and was looking to learn how to brew. She desired a hands-on experience and the opportunity to benefit from the fruits of her labor. She set out to find the best brewing experience possible. When that failed, she asked if she could brew with us. We're glad that she's along for the ride and hope that she remembers her origins when she is taking on Bell's head-to-head.

Andrew Pomerville has been brewing consistently since 2007 but credits the new Ruby Street system with Jim Kelly for finally bringing his home brews to the next level. Andrew appreciates drinking beers that match the seasons of Michigan and will always up for something with a local story attached to it. He loves to bake bread, play the bagpipes, duck hunt, and discuss the finer points of the greatest band of all time, Phish. Trained as a Presbyterian minister, Andrew is the chaplain at Alma college. He lives in Haslett with his beer loving wife, Rachell, and teenagers Denali Rose and Bryce.

He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home to a place he’d never been before. But, things kept changing fast and it didn't last for long. Jim then cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, pumped a lot of pane down in New Orleans, but he never saw the good side of the city. Therefore he left for a job in the great north woods, working as a cook for a spell. But he never did like it all that much, and one day the axe just fell. Now, he just wants to ride bikes, brew beer and cuddle. He has become comfortably numb.
An educator and an electrician. When they met, sparks flew, and they knew they were destined to brew. They had a love for beer and lake life, so they wanted to bring them both together in Lake Chemung Brewing. It's that simple. Simple, good beer - lakeside.

Cal grew up in East Lansing and attended Alma College and Michigan State. He is retired and now enjoys doing what he wants, when he wants, where he wants, how he wants and why he wants anytime he wants. That usually includes enjoying a beer or two which is why he accepted the great honor of being appointed to the Dadbod Brewing Club. Cheers!
Chicks dig me, because I rarely wear underwear and when I do it's usually something unusual. But now I know why I have always lost women to guys like you. I mean, it's not just the beer you brew and drink. It's the stories that you tell. So much fun and imagination. Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend

I mean, it's not just the beer you brew and drink. It's the stories that you tell. So much fun and imagination. Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us are together, forget it. I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I'm gonna volunteer my leadership to Dadbod Beer club. An army without leaders is like feet without big toes. And Dr Jimi and Dr Rev Chappie are not always gonna be here to be big toes for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest brewmasters, and big toes... Dr Jimi and Rev Dr. Chappie.
In truth I know nothing about brewing beer and I've always been kind of a pacifist. I don't know what kind of beer drinker I'm gonna make, but I want you guys to know if we ever get into really heavy drinking….I'll be right behind you guys. Every Step of the way.
Andy is a retired educator, who spent 37 years working to make a difference in the lives of children with special needs. He is also a craft beer enthusiast, with a taste for IPAs and anything aged in a bourbon barrel. You can find him on Untapped (Andrew Rable) rating his beer tastings. Andy has attended the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beerfest for the last 8 years, with his son.
Jor (or Joe) is a dude looking for other dudes to brew him some good draft. He found those dudes in Jim and Andrew and is appreciative he is in such a selective group with such excellent people (is he dreaming?). He has been an educator for 20 years and recently moved back to the classroom (his previous colleagues appreciate that move).

He has been known to play a little guitar and piano and it definitely sounds better after a couple of these beers.
In Dublin's fair city

Sean first set his eyes on sweet Molly Malone
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow
Through streets broad and narrow

Davina lives life to the max and is always up for an adventure. When not providing 5-star support to the world she can be found outside taking the world by storm. Davina enjoys Jeep adventures with her family, hanging out with friends, riding the rail or raging in a mosh pit, and she always enjoys a cold dadbod brew in any season.

Phil and Betsy are pretty excited to finally be members of a VERY exclusive club. They want to thank all the tall people and all the short people, equally, because tall and short people are equally valuable, for the ways in which they've supported them throughout their years of not yet being part of a VERY exclusive club. As a person-of-the-cloth and an educator, respectively, Betsy and Phil know they share a lot with Rev. Dr. Chappie and Dr. Jimi. And now they also share their beer. Betsy and Phil do plan to maintain relationships outside of this VERY exclusive club, as time and beer allow.

Kevin Galbraith, seasoned educational technology leader by day and philomath/polymath and "dad of many" by night, has been a long-time imbiber of craft and home brewed beer. (It's probably because he has more than 37 years of experience in public education, ranging from the classroom to central office, or perhaps because he is also very active in several professional organizations, at his children's school, and at his church?)
His interests range from medieval studies, to all things Catholic, to autonomous vehicles, to the “Internet of Things.” When not at work, he can be found on his bike, in the garden, or volunteering in service of others. He spends many happy hours with his family, many of whom share his proclivity for puns, infatuation with bacon, and enjoyment found in a glass of dadbod beer.

On a warm summer's eve, on a train bound for nowhere, I met up with a brewmaster and we were both too tired to sleep. So we took turns a-starin', out the window at the darkness, the boredom overtook us, and we began to speak. He said son I've had a life, brewing tasty ales, knowing what grains to mash and what hops to place on the bed.

So we took turns a-starin', out the window at the darkness, the boredom overtook us, and we began to speak. He said son I've had a life, brewing tasty ales, knowing what grains to mash and what hops to place on the bed. So if you don't mind me saying, I can see your pint is empty, let's drink to a new beginning and pass along some good advice... You've got to know when to tip 'em, know when to sip 'em, know when to walk away, and know when run. You can never count your calories when your sitting at the table there be time enough for counting, when the keg is gone. Every brewmaster knows, the secret to surviving, is knowing what recipe to throw away and knowing what one's to keep. Cause not every beers a winner and not every beers a loser and the best that you can hope for is to enjoy a beer before you sleep.
You got to know when to tip 'em,....
Flip was a shining star, a smiling face, a friend to all, and a connoisseur of everything that defines happy life. He was especially loved and adored by his doting wife Rebecca.
You see this cat, Yun is a bad motha-

Sun's Out, Guts Out!!
Watch out everyone, Joe is back and he's juicier than ever! This fruity hazy IPA packs a punch that's fatter than the tires on his bike. A hoppy high ABV treat will knock your ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, a cold beer in your hand.
Life is good today!
It's concert season and people are looking fine. This lightly hazed IPA makes everything look great even if it's not clear. But, you know what they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder."
Non-Alcoholic, Sparkling Hop Water.
It's getting hot out. Here's an alternative way to keep cool in the heat. A citrusy, bubbly, carb and calorie free hop water that lets your liver have the day off. Some people may even say it will mutilate your thirst.
The first in the 2024 music series.
Inspired by the Holy Trinity of Rock, this Canadian Lager is made with the 2112 top-fermenting yeast. This easy-drinking, clean-finishing, delicately flavored brew was created on the 48th anniversary of this seminal album. Enjoy 2112 as if you got Something for Nothing.
From the banks of the Grand River to the Loch of Lansing, the Kelly Brothers present
Hey, Brother Scottish Ale.
Some people use Dutch or Scotch as a pejorative term for being cheap. But at dadbod brew club, we use the terms to describe our rich traditional Scottish premium ale that balances a delightful warm roasted flavors with sweet caramel notes perfect for those cold windy nights on the moor or the command center..
Cool weather, crisp apples and spices. This American Brown Ale has a perfect balance of malt and roast. Finished off with apple pie spices and lightly hopped with Hallertauer.
Brewed on the banks of the Red Cedar, just in time for the start of fall semester, this mild ale is a low-gravity, malt-foward beer featuring double Crystal, Brown and Chocolate malts.
A transitional beer from light summer beers to heavy winter brews.
Good-time Andy is a man with a plan. It doesn't matter if it's a beer garden in Kzoo or a tailgate at Pine Knob, Good-time Andy will Officially make it a moment to remember. This Hazy IPA is double dry-hopped (a combination of Mosaic, Citra, Azacca, Amarillo and El Dorado hops) resulting in complex peach, stone fruit and tropical notes withe a dry finish and balanced bitterness. You better get some soon before his special lady friends swarm.
If you want to feel as cool and refreshed as Valtteri Bottas looks, pour yourself some All Day Mullet (pronounced: 'Al-Dei MOO-LAY). It does not matter if you want to get down to business or are up for a party, this session IPA will make you feel like you are P1.
Don Cherry transformed Hockey Night in Canada. He is known for his outspoken manner, opinions and flamboyant dress.
Northern Michigan is known for their cherries and has transformed this cider to to a nice tart treat.
A break in the weather, and an early release from agronomy, allowed a quick winter brew. This Michigan maze-based brew is our first attempt at lagering. Special thanks to cousin Willy for the collaboration.
Centennial and Cascade hops. Lots of Centennial and Cascade hops. The cone hops were grown and harvested in Jim's yard. They were then thrown wet into the brew. Another round of dry hopping was added. The beer then fermented and cold crashed in the winter.
It's now ready to hop into spring and start flowing for all to enjoy.
If you travel this state highway from I-96 to I-94, you'll find all of the ingredients for this classic American IPA. From the grains of Webberville through the hops of Chelsea it's all there.
A great beer to drink after riding the great trails at DTE (or really any time).
Grown, gathered, pressed and pasteurized in the heart of Michigan. A big thanks to the Cole family for the adventure.
After a few sips, you will feel like a dreamer of pictures, chasing the moonlight.
Who knows, you might even be happy the rest of your life with this cinnamon cider.
(apologies to Neil Young)
Just in time to kick off the cold holiday season! This rich malty cranberry ale is balanced between the tart cranberries and the smooth roasted malt. It's sure to pair well with turkey, Lions, figgy pudding and Jesus.
Winter in Michigan is dark. It's dark when you leave for work. It's dark when you return home. This beer is dark in your glass.
So don't worry about the reason again. Enjoy this stout where we've always been.
(apologies to Billy Strings)
Robert loves when we mess with a good thing. So, after two years of the same Oktoberfest recipe the brew crew decided to switch to an all grain Marzen receipe from our friends at Capital City Homebrew Supply. With AIH shutting their doors, even more dadbod business will go to CCHS.
Fall. The best season in Michigan. Sure the temperates on any given day can look like the results of a PowerBall drawing, but sweater weather, football games, apples, fires and the turning colors of leaves makes it a wonderful time to enjoy this golden ale.
So. Many. Hops.
Full body. Complex flavor. Bitter finish. And you will ask yourself, "Well, how is this a session?" By letting the days go by and from the water flowing underground (as well as complex array of malts, grains, and hops) we came up with what is sure to be a Hop Head favorite.
Honey honey ale, y'all!
This cream ale was brewed with five pounds of honey and honey malt resulting in plenty of flavor. All of the characteristics of a traditional cream ale with extra honey from Shaolin land make extra alcohol in your hand.
C.R.E.A.M., get the honey!
Summer. Ella tells us it's time when the livin' is easy. Mick is either dancing or fighting in the streets. But, at dadbod, we feel the sweet taste of strawberries combined with the tartness of rhubarb on top of a pilsner body, provides the perfect cure for the summertime blues.
Brewed in the Michigan cool spring of a runaway American dream. This deep amber colored ale is close to a lager with balanced hops and a malty body.
Tramps like us, baby we were Born to Brew!
Brewed in the collaborative spirit of unification and an end to the Troubles, this ale pours Orange but tastes Golden.
Sláinte!
The tart taste of raspberry under a hefeweizen ale made of Michigan honey, flaked wheat and oats added to a base of 2 row and wheat malts makes this a cool beer for a hot summer day.
Brewed on the Ides of May for Jim's Birthday
This is a pretty good grape cider. The secondary fermentation was made possible by the same family that provided the Methodists with a non-alcoholic alternative to wine for Communion.
Run, run, run as fast as you can this beer will make you a "dark beer" fan. Subtle and smooth all-natural ingredients bring a light-bodied beverage to you and your friends (regardless of whether they live on Drury Lane or not). Currently only available on Nitro
A Norris Trophy winning brew! Don't be left shorthanded. Score some of this beer before it's traded. This dessert beer has plenty of depth and complexity, and goes perfect with a cold winter night.
This full bodied stout, with big caramel, chocolate and roast character dares you to go where no man has gone before. A few drinks in and you'll find yourself saying "Oat, my. This is delicious."
This legendary Award-Winning Root Beer has that rich, creamy flavor that only comes from using Wisconsin honey direct from the combs. Our brew master skillfully combines a host of flavors in our gas-fired brew kettle, then ages it just long enough to achieve peak flavor, super creamy mouthfeel and a frothy head.
The calendar says it's autumn in Michigan. The long days of summer sunlight give way to the shorter, darker days of fall and winter. That means more dark beers for the brewclub. This vanilla porter was fermented with several whole vanilla beans complementing the dark chocolate roasted malt resulting in a flavorful but light tasting ale.
So many Joes, so many hops. Volume three of this dadbod NEIPA brings a fresh round of unfiltered aggression (hops and joes). Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe, Perkins and Liberato round out this fan favorite.
Alight now! Won't you listen?
Some beers are empty, forever on a down. This one has mango and passion fruit to show you around. This beer is unfiltered, so it's not clear. Cal loves you, Sweet Wheat! Though you can't hear.
Oh, yeah!
Flip was a brewer and a patriot. He had a natural ability to connect with others and bring people together. This black IPA is in honor of the man who helped bring this brew club together. Northwest hops, rye, with hints of chocolate and roast, bring a unique balance to this full-bodied brew.
Halfway between the Equator and the North Pole sits 800 acres of beautiful land that is home to 31.5 miles of fast flowing fun. Glacial Hills Trails lies just out of Bellaire, MI. This year-round center of joy inspired this Fat Tire ale. If you ever want to ride Glacial and enjoy some 45th Fatty, get in touch with Jim or Andrew.
This was the first beer that Sarah brewed with us. The green cardamom provides a unique flavor on the front of the beer. The black cardamom gives a smokey finish. Each sip of this full-bodied ale allows more exploration of a deep grain bill.
fter a little indulging of dadbod products, Andrew pontificated, "If Michigan honey is good enough to be the basis for 'the Krup' it should be good enough to keg." So, Rev. Dr. Chappie bartered services for honey and eli bee mead was born. It's on tap in it's unadulterated form, but the addition of syrups and other fortifications make this mead take flight.
Last year we thought we were "Moving Forward" in downtown Okemos. This year, we still have a pit and now three lanes of closed road. But, we will celebrate the season on the other side of Meridian Township at Rev. Dr. Chappie's place with the premier of this year's Oktoberfest and an in-person brewclub event. Prost!
This Double IPA (DIPA) is almost as strong as the bond between Aram and Judy.
Six different varieties of hops, and just a smackerel of honey, balance out a hefty malt bill to produce a highly drinkable DIPA.
The frequency of dadbod brewing making a batch of beer that did not have some sort of mishap contributed to the naming of this beer.
After brewing this highly refreshing, smooth wheat beer (with hints of citrus and coriander) we had a rest on the porch. We were looking out my back door and thought we saw a Bad Moon Rising. Once we saw creatures dancin' on the lawn we decided to lay off the sauce and listen to Buck Owens.
A lo-cal IPA that is a tribute to the good folks at Bell's Brewing. The grain bill (as well as the house blend yeast) was purchased from Kalamazoo. Since we brew on the Banks of the Red Cedar, we were going to use that name for this brew, but for some reason a fight (song) kept breaking out.
When you are looking for the light beer that guides you through a cloudy day, or if you ever feel you've lost your way. You've got to grab a SeanShine. This witbier pairs so well with summer fare, it makes you feel like Sun-In your hair. Tangerine peel adds a slightly sweet zest up front, with a light palate cleansing spice from the ginger root.Enjoy it cold. Let your spirit take control.
Formally known as "Andy's Cyclist Liter", this lemon radler (or shandy for those of us less Continental than Mr. Rable) is sure to refresh on a hot day. Designed not to impair summer outdoor activities, this radlermass will replenish and let you enjoy your day.
A gluten-free ale for those who want to taste hops and not just sweetness. The Carrot Pils is a nod to the Carapils Malts often used to improve head retention and enhances mouthfeel. Carrots, rice and quinoa form the basis of this brew. A strong hopping schedule (with the addition of Eli's honey) provide a beer we hope our friends with and without gluten sensitivities enjoy.
The first brewclub brewed beer took place in January and after a cold lagering process throughout February it's ready to bloom for spring. This easy drinking, well balanced, slightly malt forward ale was kegged on International Women's Day and is a tribute to Betsy who braved the cold to grind some grains and brew some beer.
Spicer than Jon Baker and much subtler than Sgt. Getraer, this brew offers the right balance of chocolate, spice, machismo and rambunctiousness. Enjoy the surprising depth and complexity that is Ponch's CHiPotle porter.
A semi-sweet cider from Phillips Orchards & Cider Mill forms the base of this autumn classic. Enjoy on its own or add some cinnamon whiskey. Jim recommends the tart cherry version
Robert the Bruce was King of Scots, our Robert is not. However, they are both men of Braveheart, with a thirst for rich and full bodied Scottish Ales. This brew has hints of roast and smoke. With a slightly sweet profile, this is a malt lovers dream.
Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, dadbod. The promise of a better future is on the horizon. As we wait for the promise of a vaccine, enjoy the full-bodied robust porter with rich chocolate and vanilla overtones.
One of our favorite brews, this fine drink is deep and delicious. Try it on nitro at Jim's place or enjoy a growler from Andrew. Enjoy it soon because crying over the broken fermenter or blown keg will not bring it back.
In the bleak mid-winter Frosty wind made moan; Earth stood hard as iron, Water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, Snow on snow, In the bleak mid-winter Get a growler to go.
It's deer-hunting season in Michigan and what better way to compliment venison than with a nice brown ale? With notes of caramel, chocolate and light roast it's solace for hunters and "buckless yoopers" alike.
This batch celebrates 100 gallons of dadbod brewing beer. This single hopped beer is the 10th beer of dadbod's portfolio. The hops were handpicked, dried and brewed as a collaboration with Steve and Papa John.
The first Oktoberfest took place in 1810, to celebrate the wedding of the Bavarian Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese. The Okemos Oktoberfest was brewed in 2020 to celebrate the "Moving Forward" of Downtown Okemos.
A light-bodied summer wheat, this boutique beer is the last beer of the 2020 Pandemic Series. Refreshing and comforting, this ale will keep you safe all season long.
The second in the rowdy Covid Casserole series, the C.C. Dev-ALE provides a ripping solo that is not Poison.
Organic ginger, lemons, limes and cane sugar make this a delicious drink. This is a great stand alone beverage or a mixer that is primed for fortification. A hard version was also available.
